Album Two
8. Where are the Flies (3:04)*
We don't see a lot of flies these days. And bees. Should we be worried?
Play Song
WHERE ARE THE FLIES?
Where are the flies; where are the bees?
Where are the wasps that once troubled me?
what have we done with the bugs and the slugs?
And where are the flies and the bees?
Look for the weeds in my garden lawn
Stricken with killer they grow there no more
My lovely green sward impresses you all
But butterflies don't stick around.
Where are the flowers in the long grass
Waving their blooms at folk when they pass
Once we had beautiful meadows and fields
Now we have acres of towns.
My windscreen was once covered in splat
Cleaning my headlights was where it was at
Now even the lights don't seem to attract
The moths have all gone to ground.
If we don't have fertilization
Food supplies will fail for the nation
We'll have to import from faraway places
It all seems a little unsound.
No bugs were hurt in writing this song
Killing our insects seems to be wrong
What will we do when they all say "so long"
It won't be a welcoming sound.
