REFUGEES FROM HATRED
I'll cross the endless oceans and I'll walk a thousand miles
Over mountains, over deserts with my family by my side.
We're escaping from the killing and the destruction of our homes:
We are refugees from hatred, we are refugees from hatred.
We are refugees from hatred and all we ask is love.
Once I was successful and I had a lovely home.
Then, in a huge explosion, everything was gone.
I don't know what had hit us was it a rocket or a drone.
Or maybe it was an RPG, or perhaps a barrel bomb?
So I gathered up my family and we set off for the West.
With all that we could carry we had to leave the rest.
It cost me many dollars for the transport to the coast.
But every step would take us far away from what we’d lost
And I'll cross...
Along the way we suffered hardships as we walked:
Insults and resistance as people feared the worst.
Razor wire and fences try to stop us on the way.
The media despised us and the locals were afraid.
Sometimes we met with kindness and sometimes people helped with food and clothes and medicines:
The things we needed most.
And once the countries realised how we could help them too
We started to be welcomed; we started to pull through….
So I'll cross. …
We are only human and we're running for our lives.
It is not our fault that our homeland can’t survive
Why can’t we not live in peace, our children are distressed?
So please will you help us? Please will you help us?
Please will you help us, and we shall all be blessed?
We are refugees from hatred, refugees from hatred.
We are refugees from hatred and all we ask is love.
