2. I Don't Know Who I Am

I DON’T KNOW WHO I AM

How did I get here? It’s all been too soon

Wandering the corridors and through the dayroom

The trolleys at teatime mark another day’s gone

I’m watching the telly - stuck here in my room

And I don’t know who I am; I don’t know who I am

How did I get here? How did I begin?

I recall the trenches, I remember the King,

I watched the coronation of that lovely young girl

She was just like the nurses who I meet in my world.

And they don’t know who I am; they don’t know who I am

Although in my mind I want to do more

We just talk of grandchildren, of weather and war

Grandad how are you? Are you eating your tea?

I’ve brought you a book and a picture of me.

I’d love to tell you of all of my plans

But I can’t stay long; let’s sit and hold hands

As you don’t know who I am; you don’t know who I am.
