Album Two

2.  Boxes (3:24) *

My dystopian lockdown song. We all remember where we were.

At home.

In a box.

2. Boxes

BOXES

The man on the box tells us all not to move but to stay there

So I live in my box, it is quite a nice box, so I’ll stay here

Plenty of room, lots of  things I can do

While I’m waiting, waiting for you

And every day the man just appears and says stay there.

So I sit in my box and look out at the plants in my garden

Here in my box, I can watch them flower and grow.

Plenty of room, lots of things I can do

While I’m waiting, waiting for you

And every day the man just appears and says stay there.

Inside my box I get things that I need sent here to me

While the world goes on by in the box that I have in the corner.

What can I do, can I fill up the time

While I’m waiting, waiting for you?

And every day the man just appears and says stay there.

All of us have boxes, some are big and some are small

And all of us are terrified of the monster beyond our walls.

We see the sights of the suffering of those who went before

We see them on our boxes and feel sorry for them all.

Once, long ago, I remember we all had our freedom

We didn’t need boxes; we didn’t need to be told

But the man on the box shows me the slides from the presentation he gave

Nothing has changed and I still need to stay there.
